Don’t let your dog be part of this lineup.
Bond with your buddy while setting him up for success through our puppy socialization and obedience classes and special seminars.
Training is an excellent way to bond with your dog while developing him into a well-adjusted, well-socialized member of urban society. We encourage owners to invest in their dog’s future with obedience training. Although it is critical to start training as puppies, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! We offer group classes in our store or private lessons in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace.
Our basic training philosophy is rooted in practical, humane and scientifically sound techniques to promote healthy leadership for owners. In addition to the variety of group classes and seminars offered, we specialize in solving problem behaviors like jumping, begging, barking, etc.

Robert Haussmann is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer- Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). He formed Dogboy Inc. in 2005 and works professionally as a dog trainer and behavior consultant serving NYC. Robert’s training philosophy reflects his belief that while most dog owners have the best of intentions, they often lack important information about how dogs learn and perceive the world around them. These miscommunications can lead to behavioral problems that range from nuisance behaviors like inappropriate barking or jumping, to severe behaviors like aggression issues or separation anxiety — reasons why perfectly normal dogs end up in an overcrowded shelter system.
Robert is passionate about teaching owners to work with their dogs as a team. Each training program is tailored to the individual needs of each dog and their owners. Using humane, practical, scientifically sound techniques Robert promotes healthy leadership for owners. This aids in developing a common language from which a strong, healthy, balanced, fulfilling relationship is built.
Robert’s mission is to improve the lives and relationships of dogs and owners through hands-on education and personal attention. He provides one on one training sessions with dogs and families in their home, as well as group classes.
Dogboy has been featured on ABC’s “The View”, WCBS, Bravo-TV, NY Times, USA Today, People Pets and Dogster.com.
Robert was most recently interviewed for a NY Times article for training Mayor Bloomberg’s (or shall we say Diana Taylor’s?) dogs, Bonnie and Clyde. You can read the article here.

Puppy Social Hour - for Pups 4 months and under
A must for any new puppy owner! Optimum socialization period for pups is 3-12 weeks of age. During this developmental period it is critical to expose your newest family member to as many positive experiences as possible so that your pooch grows up a well-adjusted adult. Just like kindergarten, this “pay-as-you-go” program will introduce your pup to a variety of people, puppies, big city noises and distractions in a safe and controlled environment. Using a scientific method of reward marker training and positive reinforcement, your young pup will learn essential commands like FOCUS, SIT, TAKE IT, etc. and owners will receive tips on HOUSE TRAINING, FEEDING, NIPPING, CHEWING, BEGGING, JUMPING and BARKING. Our goal is to set you and your pup up for success and have fun doing it! Owners will enjoy a complimentary wine tasting hosted by our friends at Waterfront Wine & Spirits.
For puppies 20 weeks and under. Each class is $15. Consult with your vet regarding vaccination requirements. Generally Wag Club suggests that puppies receive one to two rounds of vaccinations and Bordetella. Every Monday from 7:30-8:30pm.
Basic Obedience 101 - Dogs Over 4 months
Basic obedience is just as much for your dog, as it is the owner. By teaching basic cues and manners you not only strengthen the bond between you and your beloved pet, and build a common language between you, but your dog will quickly understand where he falls in line in your family structure. By becoming the benevolent leader of the pack, most dogs will develop a more relaxed and confident temperament and a strong desire to please. By using meaningful rewards and scientifically proven techniques, your dog will graduate with a review of FOCUS, SIT, LEAVE IT, TAKE IT/ DROP IT, and TOUCH as well as SIT-STAY, DOWN, DOWN-STAY, HEEL, LOOSE LEASH WALKING, ON/OFF and COME.
We require puppies receive 2 rounds of vaccination shots and Bordetella and adult dogs be fully vaccinated. Class is limited to 8 dogs. Certificate awarded upon graduation. 6 week class $300
Obedience - Level II for Basic Grads (5 Classes)
Why stop at the basics? Take your dog to the next level of education and strengthen the bond between both ends of the leash. Your pooch will appreciate being able to communicate with you more often and you’ll appreciate having a well-behaved dog. In this class, we’ll strengthen basic obedience cues and add big time challenges such as “Come” with other dogs distracting, come to heel as well as cover new commands like FETCH.
Prerequisite: Any basic obedience class. Class is limited to 8 dogs with no aggression issues. Must be fully vaccinated. Certificate awarded upon graduation. New clients: Package of 5 $300; Existing clients: Package of 5 $250
Tricks, Treats & Agility (5 Classes)
Dogs can learn up to 160 commands so why not enrich your best friend mentally and physically with more vocabulary? Show off your dog’s abilities and be a hit at your next party or at the dog run. You’ll enjoy watching your dog bring out his inner performer and your dog will enjoy performing for you. We’ll cover a new trick every week including HIGH FIVE, WAVE, SPIN, ROLLOVER, PLAY DEAD, CRAWL, as well as some basic agility like JUMP THROUGH HOOPS, TUNNEL RUN and more. We’ll even take suggestions. These are great skills to have in your back pocket when the weather is not so nice outside as they challenge and stimulate your pet mentally and physically.
Prerequisite: Any basic obedience class. Class is limited to 8 dogs. Certificate awarded upon graduation. Package of 5 $250
